You can smash a pumpkin and support students at a Kiwanis fundraiser this weekend.
The Broad Ripple Kiwanis Club is having its annual Pumpkin Smash fundraiser Sunday, Oct. 19, to support STEAM education in Indianapolis schools.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The Broad Ripple event aims to raise money for STEAM camps, tutoring, field trips, art supplies and more.
The event runs from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 19 at Half Liter Brewery, Bar, & BBQ, 5301 Winthrop Ave., Suite B.
Admission is free. Attendees can help raise funds by participating in an online auction, buying an exclusive Pumpkin Smash event T-shirt, or buying a ticket to smash a pumpkin.
Adults can buy a $20 ticket to drop a pumpkin from a construction lift. And, attendees of all ages can purchase a $5 ticket to smash a pumpkin with a mallet.
The event will also have kids’ crafts, pumpkin painting, live music and a costume parade.
Proceeds are expected to benefit several Indianapolis schools. In the past, the Broad Ripple Kiwanis Club has supported James Whitcomb Riley School 43, Phalen Leadership Academy at Louis B. Russell School 48, Eliza Blaker School 55, Rousseau McClellan School 91, William Bell School 60, Shortridge High School and Purdue Polytechnic High School.
