Indy families can kick off the start of the school year with free school supplies, backpacks and other educational resources at the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside’s Back 2 School Tailgate.
In addition to raffles and giveaways, the CAFE event places a focus on educational attainment. Free scholarship workshops will be offered in three languages — English, Spanish and Haitian Creole — and information about other resources like transportation assistance will be available.
The event comes after CAFE opened a new education and training center this summer.
CAFE especially encourages men to attend the Back 2 School Tailgate along with their families. Kids won’t be required, but are encouraged to attend to participate in planned activities and performances.
Snow cones will be provided by Shaved Ice Unlimited, and free food will be made available by Heine’s Food Truck.
The event will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at CAFE, 8902 E. 38th St. More information is available on CAFE’s Facebook page.
