For years, the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center has provided food for westsiders who need it. Earlier this year, they took their food items out of the lobby and opened a dedicated food pantry space. Since February, the pantry has served more than 6,000 people.

The food pantry functions like a grocery, so you can walk through the aisles and select the foods you like. Staff members from the center can help you grab items and check you out. But as more shoppers come through the doors, Mary Rigg’s food pantry needs more grocery bags.

Each month, Mary Rigg is going through 6,000 plastic bags. If the center buys those in bulk, it costs $240. That $240 could pay for a week’s worth of eggs or meat to stock the pantry.

So, they’re asking for donations of clean, gently-used bags that are reusable. The only requirement is that the bags must come from a smoke-free home.

You can drop off bags at two locations:

📍 Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center, 1920 W. Morris St.
🕑 Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. They plan to put out a box soon to accept donations 24/7.

📍 Mary Rigg Food Market, 2102 W. Morris St.
🕑 Hours: 10:30 a.m. to noon Mondays, 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesdays.
