Teens looking to grow their job skills and get paid this summer can apply for Edna Martin Christian Center’s Summer Works program.

The summer program offers three weeks of job skills training and an additional three weeks of work experience. Students are paid a $1,000 stipend.

The program runs 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from June 8 to July 16. Some special events may happen on Fridays or weeknights.

College visits are also included in the program.

Lunch will be provided, but teens must secure their own transportation to and from the program.

Eligible students must be in high school, live in Marion County and commit to regular attendance. Students also need their parent’s permission if they’re under 18.

All teens should secure a professional reference. That could be from a teacher, counselor, employer or other community member, but it can’t be a relative.

Teens can apply online. The application form will close at 5 p.m. May 4.

If selected, students and their parents must attend an orientation from 6-7:30 p.m. May 27.
