Indy will celebrate the culture and cuisine of Ayiti — or Haiti — on Friday, Nov. 1, at the first Ayiti in the Heartland.
From 6:30-9 p.m. the festivities at Indiana Landmarks’ Cook Theatre, 1201 Central Ave., will feature traditional Haitian dishes, music performances and art.
Chef Djeepson of Labadee Restaurant will curate the evening’s menu. Akoustic will perform Caribbean pop, Afrobeats and reggae music throughout the night. Indianapolis painter Johnson Simon, who is Haitian, will showcase his work.
While the celebration is free, guests are encouraged to RSVP and make a donation to the event’s organizer, the Dieudonne Foundation. The local organization works to improve maternal health outcomes and to reduce the rates of HIV.
Proceeds from donations will go toward sponsoring bilingual doulas, expanding HIV education and awareness efforts and addressing health disparities in Indianapolis.
