Clothes that fit your body and your style don’t have to cost you a bunch of money. In fact, clothes don’t have to cost you anything at all.
We gathered a list of 13 nonprofits, churches and thrift stores in Indianapolis that offer free clothes, so you can stay warm in the winter, exude confidence at your job interview or get the right fit for your always-growing kids.
Different organizations have different requirements. Some serve veterans, kids or men or women searching for a new job. A few require you to bring an ID or have a referral from a community center or school, but many are open to anyone who needs clothes, no questions asked.

Center Township Clothing Closet
🗓️ 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
📍Julia M. Carson Government Center, 300 E. Fall Creek Parkway N. Drive
The Center Township clothing closet offers free clothes to any Marion County resident. You don’t have to live in Center Township. You can come once a month to look through a room of free clothes, shoes, swimsuits and coats.
Thrifty Threads
🗓️ 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday
📍 8424 Castleton Corner Drive and 1501 W. 86th St.
Clients of the Julian Center, which supports survivors of domestic violence and abuse, can shop at the two Thrifty Threads locations free of charge. The stores offer clothes, some furniture and books and toys for kids.
Charity Cares Clothing Closet
🗓️ 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to noon Saturday
📍 959 N. Holmes Ave.
This clothing closet is open to kids and families. You don’t have to make an appointment or fill out paperwork — just show up during open hours and shop for what you need.
Dress for Success Indianapolis
🗓️ Appointments are available 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 2-4 p.m. Wednesday.

Women can get clothes for a job interview or a new job. You can fill out a self-referral or get a referral through a community center, education organization or others on Dress for Success’ list of partners. You can also get clothes in two ways: a personalized kit of clothes in your size that you can pick up or a two-hour in-person styling appointment where you get interview tips and a personal shopper.
Lambswear
🗓️ Set up a pickup time by filling out an online form.
📍 5841 Thunderbird Road
This is a free clothing store that serves children, from preemies to teenagers. The only requirement to qualify is that you have to live in Indianapolis.
Catholic Charities Crisis Office
🗓️ 1-3 p.m. Mondays; and 10-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays
📍 1435 N. Illinois St.
The Crisis Office provides free food, hygiene items and clothes. Show up 15 minutes before the opening times, as it’s first-come, first-served. They offer coats, jackets, socks, underwear, hats, gloves and scarves.

Men who are veterans, unhoused or have been formerly incarcerated can make an appointment to get free suits and business clothes. The nonprofit gets clients through referral partners, such as HVAF or Fathers and Families Center. You can also request help through their website.
Metro Baptist Center
🗓️ 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday

Bring a photo ID and a utility bill or receipt from your rent payment to the food and clothing pantry to get assistance.
Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church
🗓️ 10 a.m. to noon every fourth Saturday of the month, except for November and December.
📍 2325 Hovey St.
The church offers free clothes and groceries once a month. If you have questions, call the church at 317-924-2737.
Fletcher Place Community Center Free Thrift Store

The free thrift store at the community center offers seasonal clothes, hygiene products and snack packs. If you have questions about the thrift store, call 317-636-3466, ext. 403.
Assistance League Indianapolis
📍1475 W. 86th St.
Operation School Bell provides clothes for children who are in kindergarten through fifth grade and go to school at IPS or the Metropolitan School Districts of Lawrence, Warren and Pike townships. Reach out to your school to get connected to the program.
Horizon House

Horizon House provides essential needs to neighbors experiencing homelessness, including clothing, showers, laundry and meals.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Indianapolis
🗓️ 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

Reach out to Saint Vincent de Paul through an online request form to get clothing, food or household items. The clothing is available at the Mission 27 resale store.
