CareSource will host a resource fair for mothers from noon to 2 p.m. May 11 at the Finish Line Boys & Girls Club, 3870 N. Post Road, on the east side. Called Bumps and Babies, the event is free and open to the public.

Pam Lozano, the resource development and marketing manager for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, said the goal of the event is to help women stay healthy before and after giving birth.

“We know what the dangers are of minority women not having healthy pregnancies and seeing them through full term,” Lozano said.  “This is also really for them to make sure that they have the tools at their disposal to understand what comes beyond the pregnancy. Making sure they are getting prenatal care and the proper nutrition, but also what happens after the baby.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranks Indiana in the top 10 worst states for infant mortality. The state also has a high maternal mortality rate and Black women are disproportionately affected

The event will feature breastfeeding support, car seat checks and health screenings.

In honor of Mother’s Day, attendees can also enjoy free facials, manicures and chair yoga.
