Candidate Q&A
What makes you qualified or uniquely fit for this position?
I understand many of the issues residents of the 6th Congressional District are facing because I have lived them. As a former federal employee of the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Homeland Security, I have a vast knowledge of how our government functions and what processes need improvement in order to streamline real relief for the American people.
What do you believe are the top three most pressing issues in your district and how will you address them?
I have learned the top three issues affecting the 6th District are the economy, healthcare and Social Security, which faces insolvency by 2032 if we do not act to fund this important program that millions of Americans have faithfully paid into and depend on. Hoosiers in the 6th District are struggling financially, and it has become more difficult for people to afford their mortgage, rent, groceries, utilities, healthcare, prescription drugs and childcare. I will work to raise the federal minimum wage to $25.00 an hour, increase subsidies for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), restore critical funding for Medicaid and Medicare and fully fund the combined trusts that administer Social Security benefits in order to ensure solvency.
What is your stance on how the federal government is handling immigration enforcement?
The federal government has grossly mismanaged the important work of immigration enforcement in our country. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has become a lawless agency violating civil, constitutional and human rights in its targeting of immigrants, migrant communities and American citizens. ICE must be abolished, and a new federal agency created based on probable cause and due process with a steadfast commitment to humanity.
Many residents are concerned about the cost of food, housing and health care. How would you work to address these concerns?
I will work to create policy that lowers the cost of food through short-term price controls while providing incentives to suppliers, and by increasing funding for food assistance. I will work to expand eligibility for rental assistance and support legislation for strong tenant rights and protections to prevent unjust evictions. And I will work to restore the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies that were eliminated in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, in order to lower premiums and to allow more Americans to obtain affordable healthcare.
If you win, how can Marion County constituents expect their lives to improve?
If elected, I plan to improve the quality of life of Marion County constituents by lowering the cost of living to provide financial relief, passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure voter protections and by advocating tirelessly in Congress so constituents can refocus their attention on themselves, their families and their businesses without worrying if their Representative in Washington is fighting for them.
