Candidate Q&A

In your view, what was the most important issue to come out of this year’s legislative session, and how would you have approached legislating the issue?

The biggest issue was how the state pursued growth and infrastructure without fully respecting local planning and affordability. My approach is shaped by a conservative, pro‑opportunity mindset-one that former Governor Mitch Daniels has endorsed as practical and grounded in real‑world results for central Indiana. I would have pushed for stronger local‑planning flexibilities so that Indianapolis and Marion County could shape major projects in ways that protect neighborhoods, manage school and traffic impacts, and avoid displacing residents—instead of letting the state impose one‑size‑fits‑all mandates.

What is your stance on the future of data centers in Indianapolis?

My stance is that we approve data‑center projects that pay their own way on utilities, use closed‑loop water systems, create real local jobs, and respect local control on environmental and zoning rules. If a project expects special treatment or sidesteps local standards, it shouldn’t get a free pass.

Indianapolis residents are facing steep increases to the cost of living at the same time federal benefits are being pulled back. What is one policy you would pursue to ease the financial burden of your constituents?

Rather than new entitlements, I would focus on expanding targeted workforce development and apprenticeship programs that help residents earn higher‑paying, stable jobs. At the same time, I’d push for local regulatory reforms that reduce unnecessary barriers to small‑business growth, because long‑term relief comes from more opportunity, not just more spending. That’s why I also support translating state and federal benefit changes into clear, plain‑language guidance so families can adapt quickly without confusion.

More than 1 in 10 Marion County residents were born outside the country. President Donald Trump’s administration is pursuing an immigration agenda that has led to mass detentions and at times, resulted in the deaths of citizens and noncitizens. What is your role in maintaining the safety of immigrants and other residents?

My role is to uphold the law and public safety while keeping local government within its proper lane. As endorsed by the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police, I support law enforcement that cooperates with federal authorities on legitimate criminal matters. That balance respects public safety and the rule of law without letting local government overreach into federal immigration policy.

How should public tax dollars be spent on education? Do you support property tax funding for charter schools? Should Indiana fund students’ tuition to attend private schools?

Public tax dollars should be spent first on strengthening traditional public schools, with a focus on accountability, performance, and efficient use of resources. As a graduate of Pike High School, I know firsthand how much these schools mean to central Indiana families. That includes expanding vocational education and apprenticeships to make clear not every student needs to go to college to be career‑ready. These programs train students for skilled trades and local job demand, and public dollars can reap the benefits by building a stronger, home‑grown workforce. I support giving families more options, including charter schools, but not at the expense of local property‑tax funding being redirected away from district schools. On using state funds for private‑school tuition, I favor a narrow, data‑driven approach-such as limited vouchers for low‑income families or students with special‑needs-only if those programs are closely monitored.
