Dear Indy,
Education reporter Carley Lanich interviewed Jake Apollos about his new role as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum’s first-ever director of education.
The museum is undergoing a $64-million renovation that will bring a more interactive experience to race fans, including racing simulators, a classroom and innovation workshop.
Apollos worked for 15 years in classroom and school leadership roles, most recently at Decatur Township Schools. He’s also a race fan and likes a certain driver from Pittsboro. Read more here.

Notes from our Documenters
Last week, Documenter Lauren Holton attended the Pike Township school board meeting.
During the meeting, Chris Ludy, president of the Pike Classroom Teachers Association, presented updates on changes within the association.
Ludy said the PCTA amended its constitution and bylaws and increased their officers from four to six. He said these officers will attend future school board meetings.
Ludy encouraged the board to consider adding discussions between the administration and the PCTA into board policy. “We are not going to work here forever,” he said. “I think it is the right thing to do.”
Read more from Lauren’s notes here. Can you chip in a small monthly gift today to help expand the program by covering the costs to recruit, train and pay additional Documenters?

Reflections
When Lucy, my 3-year-old, asks for something I often respond by saying things like “yes, Sweetness” or “yes, My Love.” Monday, while getting Lucy her breakfast I was mindlessly singing “Yesterday” by the Beatles — as it turns out incorrectly — as “Yesterday, my love was so far away.”
At that lyric, Lucy looked up and said, “I’m not far away, Daddy. I’m right here.”
