The city’s Department of Metropolitan Development is holding two informational sessions focused on data centers.

The virtual meetings, which are free and open to the public, will provide an overview of the city’s proposed regulations for future data center developments.

A draft copy of the regulations, subject to approval from the City-County Council, calls for the creation of a special zoning district for data center facilities.

The zoning would impose restrictions on sound levels and require developers to submit plans for a facility’s water and electricity needs, though some critics believe the regulations don’t go far enough to protect residents from the potential harm of data centers.

Both sessions will be streamed live on Channel 16, recorded, and posted on the city-county website.
