The Damien Center opened a new dental clinic July 28 on the near east side.

Any Marion County resident can receive routine cleanings, fillings, extractions, X-rays and other services at the nonprofit’s Mosaic Building, 1420 E. Washington St. People without insurance coverage may qualify for financial assistance, with costs determined on a sliding fee scale based on income and household size.

Damien Center is Indiana’s oldest HIV service organization. In a news release, the group said the new dental clinic was opened in response to a 2022 county survey where 38% of adults said they hadn’t gone to the dentist in the past year. That number rose to 65% when residents had a household income under $25,000.

“Too often, people delay or avoid dental treatment because of cost, fear or negative past experiences,” said Alan Witchey, president and CEO of Damien Center. “We’re removing those barriers.”

The clinic is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays, the window is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled online

Patients should bring an insurance card and photo ID. Financial counselors are also available to help people apply for Medicaid or Marketplace plans.
