The city of Indianapolis will begin cleaning a homeless encampment along Fall Creek Trail around Oct. 27.

The camp, which is underneath the Monon Trail bridge by Fall Creek Parkway, has been in the news recently because trail users say the site has gotten messier, with some debris on the trail.

One news story said the city was planning to close the encampment. But Jamia Dinkins, a spokesperson for the Office of Public Health and Safety, told Mirror Indy that isn’t accurate.

It isn’t clear how many people live at the encampment. Dinkins referred Mirror Indy to homeless service provider Horizon House for that information. The organization, which merged with Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana last year, didn’t respond to a request for comment.

When Mirror Indy visited the site on the afternoon of Oct. 21, there were tents set up and debris scattered around the site down to the river.
