Indy Parks & Recreation broke ground on a $3.5-million project Aug. 15 at Washington Park, 3130 E. 30th St.

The project will add a new splash pad, parking lot, shelter and event lawn. The park’s central playground will also be replaced. The project is expected to be completed summer 2025.

This project is one of several improvements across the city’s near northside and Martindale Brightwood neighborhood including the opening of Rev. Charles R. Williams Park, the new family center and playground at Frederick Douglass Park and renovated basketball courts at Fall Creek & 30th Park

Last year, Indy Parks announced the organization received an $80-million grant from Lilly Endowment for improvements across the parks system. The funds represented 14 times the organization’s annual capital budget, according to Indy Parks.
