Shepherd Community Center will host information sessions about Indiana’s new Medicaid work requirements on Oct. 28 and Nov. 7.
The changes impact the Healthy Indiana Plan, which covers low-income adults between the ages of 19 and 64. Starting in January 2027, people will have to prove they are working, volunteering or going to school at least 80 hours per month to keep their health coverage. In other cases, people must show they have an exemption to the requirements.
The community center is hosting the events to answer questions about the work requirements and how to report your hours. On Oct. 28, the information sessions will be from 9-9:15 a.m. and 10:30-10:45 a.m at The Porch, 4105 E. Washington St. That’s followed by drop-in hours for questions between 9 a.m. to noon.
The Nov. 7 event will be at Shepherd Community Center, 4107 E. Washington St. The sessions are from 11-11:15 a.m. and noon to 12:15 p.m., with drop-in help from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
No registration is required. If possible, participants should bring their own laptops or cell phones. The community center will have a limited number of laptops available for people to use on-site.
Before heading to the event, you can use the state’s screening tool to check if work requirements apply to you. The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration said about 58,000 Hoosiers could lose Medicaid coverage next year because they are not currently meeting the work requirements.
