IPS is taking steps to help its students connect directly with employers.

A new series of career discovery meetings kicks off in October in IPS high schools, and the district is looking for community partners to connect with students.

The meetings have been organized in partnership with Junior Achievement of Central Indiana. IPS wants to find adults in career fields such as health care, technology and the trades to meet with students in small groups to discuss what it’s like working in these industries.

The career discovery meetings come as a response to recent state legislation requiring certain school districts to provide instruction on career awareness.

Interested employers can visit the IPS website to volunteer for any of three upcoming career discovery meetings. Two take place at Arsenal Technical High School from 8-11 a.m. Oct. 3 and Oct. 10. To register, click here.

A third meeting will be 8-10 a.m. Oct. 31 at Crispus Attucks High School. To register, click here.

Prospective career partners will also need to complete a one-time volunteer application with IPS and undergo a background check. More information about volunteering with IPS is available here.
