Ivy Tech Indianapolis reopened its library and tutoring center on the fourth floor of the North Meridian Center on Jan. 8.

The library was previously located across campus in the Julia M. Carson Learning Resource Center, along with the college’s tutoring spaces and art gallery. Ivy Tech closed the spaces in mid-December.

The changes are part of Ivy Tech’s plans to reimagine its presence in Indianapolis. The new library is in the college’s hub in the North Meridian Center, an effort to centralize student support services in one location.

Future plans include closing and selling Ivy Tech’s Lawrence location and relocating the health care programs at Illinois Fall Creek Center closer to downtown hospitals and clinics.

The former library will be converted into offices for administrators and the college president. A small but vocal group of students previously told Mirror Indy they were upset about the library’s move and felt the decision was made without input from the community or students.

However, Ivy Tech administrators said the changes were based on student feedback and are an effort to make the campus more accessible.

The college is still working to find another space for its gallery, according to Ivy Tech spokesperson Julie Scholl.
