A near northside food pantry is extending its hours to help more families as schools let out for summer break.
Mid-North Food Pantry will open on Saturdays in June and July to provide additional support for students and their caretakers. The pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday year round.
The additional Saturday hours are being added from June 6 to July 25 in recognition that families will need more resources to help stock their kitchens. Organizers say they want the pantry to serve as a resource during the summer when there are fewer school meal options for students.
Mid-North Food Pantry provides a grocery store-style atmosphere. Families can shop for available eggs, meats and produce items during their visit.
This summer, pantry staff expect to also offer kid-friendly and grab-and-go items, such as macaroni and cheese, PB&J materials, pretzels and granola bars.
The pantry will be open 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday throughout the summer. The pantry will be closed on the Fourth of July.
Mid-North Food Pantry is located at 3333 N. Meridian St.
Households can visit once per week throughout the summer. The pantry does not require an ID or advanced appointment to participate. The pantry will only ask for your first and last name and if you’re an Indiana resident.
Mid-North Food Pantry is also seeking volunteers to help with its Saturday hours. You can visit the pantry’s website to sign up for a shift.
