Misty Copeland, who has broken barriers in her ballet dancing career, will speak at 7 p.m. on March 20 at the Madam Walker Legacy Center, 617 Indiana Ave., as the library’s honored 2024 speaker for its annual Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture Series. The conversation will be moderated by author Ashley C. Ford.

Tickets are sold out but the event will be livestreamed and you can watch it on the Indianapolis Public Library’s YouTube channel.

Copeland is the author of a New York Times bestselling memoir “Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina,” and she made history as the first Black woman to perform the lead role of Odette/Odile in the American Ballet Theatre’s production of “Swan Lake.” She is also the first Black woman to be promoted to principal dancer in the ballet company’s 75-year history.
