Starting next fall, Purdue University students will no longer be able to choose student housing in the LUX on Capitol apartments.Ā

Purdue started partnering with the downtown apartment complex in fall 2024 to lease some, and eventually all, of the apartments as student housing. But that partnership is ending next year.Ā

Starting fall 2027, Purdue in Indianapolis students will have new student housing options. That includes the new Academic Success Building which is scheduled to open in May. The building — Purdue’s first new construction in Indianapolis — will have dorm space for more than 500 students, the college’s spokesperson told Mirror Indy.

Students will still be able to live in North Hall, a former IUPUI dorm that houses both IU Indianapolis and Purdue students. According to the spokesperson, Purdue’s also exploringĀ  opening up student housing in Canal Square Apartments soon, which the university purchased in 2025.

The move comes as Purdue continues to build out its new campus downtown.

In an Oct. 8 Commission for Higher Education meeting, interim Purdue President Mitch DanielsĀ  gave more details about the university’s next new building in Indianapolis, called the Health, Science and Engineering Hub.Ā

Purdue is requesting $100 million from the state for the project. According to Daniels’ presentation, the new building would have dorm space for about 500 more students, as well as lab and classroom space.

Daniels said the university needs the building by fall 2030, but the state hasn’t approved funding for the project yet.
