A local creative collective is celebrating the Indianapolis community with a free weekend event at two eastside parks.

Slum Baby Family will host Fam Fest Aug. 1-2 at  Frederick Douglass Park and Wes Montgomery Park. Organizers said the goal of the event is to clean up the neighborhood and give back to the community.

There will be a community pickup day from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 1 at Douglass Park, 1616 E. 25th St. Free water and snacks will be available for participants.

The second day of Fam Fest will be 4-8 p.m. Aug. 2 at Wes Montgomery Park, 3501 N. Hawthorne Lane. Attendees can receive free school supplies, haircuts and barbecue meals. There will also be music and a kickball game with local musicians, artists and community advocates.

The event is free and open to everyone. Online registration is encouraged, but not required. More information about Fam Fest can be found on the Slum Baby Family Instagram page.
