A local creative nonprofit is hosting a weekend summit designed to uplift Black and Latino artists.
AIGA’s Indy’s event — which runs Aug. 7-9 — celebrates the five-year anniversary of Creatives in Color. Guests can attend a morning matcha networking event, a free art show and vendor market at Factory Arts District and a panel discussion with illustrators Fabiola Lara and Sophia Yeshi.
Omari Souza, author of Design Against Racism, will give an artist talk at Herron School of Art.
In 2021, Justin Muse, president of AIGA Indy and graphic designer at Lilly, created Creatives in Color, a curated speaker series that highlights “BIPOC” graphic designers, content creators, writers, cultural leaders and artists in Indianapolis. Byron Elliott, Eduardo Luna and Ashley C. Ford have been guest speakers.
“The intent with the speaker series was for the local community and most importantly younger designers to see these people of color in high up positions and doing the jobs we think don’t exist,” Muse said.
Online registration is required for some events. Tickets are $10-$25.
