Registration is now open for families seeking free or low-cost learning opportunities for their kids this summer.

The Mind Trust, an education nonprofit, opened enrollment last week for Indy Summer Learning Labs, a five-week program serving Marion County kids entering the first through ninth grades in the fall.

The program provides academic instruction, activities and breakfast and lunch to students in partnership with more than 45 participating community centers, churches and schools. Students will learn from licensed teachers and participate in field trips and arts and STEM activities.

Details vary by location, but some sites also will offer before- and after-school care as well as transportation. The program runs from June 17 to July 19.

The learning labs have resources to serve 5,500 students this summer, but each location has a seating limit. Families are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible to place kids at their preferred Indy Summer Learning Lab location.

This is the fourth year the Mind Trust has put on this program. Kids who attended the learning labs in 2021 and 2022 saw double-digit gains in math and reading skills over the course of the summer, according to a release from the Mind Trust.

Families can view a list of participating locations, site hours and instructions about how to enroll on the Indy Summer Learning Labs website.
