Parents and students can attend a free community conversation on education from 4:45-8 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside, 8902. E. 38th St. 

The Beyond the Bell conversation will include discussion on IREAD literacy legislation, the impact of chronic absenteeism, new high school graduation requirements and tips for choosing schools. A panel of education experts will lead the discussion. 

The event, which is open to the public, will feature dinner, child care and raffles for gas cards. Spanish and Haitian Creole translations also will be offered. 

The conversation is in partnership with CAFE, La Plaza, Empowered Families and The Mind Trust. Register online
