The Indianapolis Public Library is resuming its free Wi-Fi hot spot lending program.

This comes after the program was suspended in December due to federal funding cuts to the E-Rate program. The federal program helps school districts and libraries nationwide obtain affordable high-speed internet access. 

Wi-Fi hot spot devices are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and are only available to adult library cardholders whose accounts are in good standing. They cannot be held, renewed or requested in advance. A household can use one device for up to three weeks. 

The library will offer 80 Wi-Fi hot spots across eight branches, down from 15. Branches have been added or removed to focus on offering reliable internet access to residents who have a greater need.
