A program that advances minority youth in Indianapolis through career and character training is celebrating the success of a 5-year fundraising effort that will ensure it can continue to positively influence the city’s youth.
The nonprofit Center for Leadership Development held a ceremony Friday celebrating the completion of its $33 million Rise fundraising campaign. The campaign allowed the center to double the size of its headquarters facility, establish satellite locations across the city and establish an endowment fund.
The nonprofit offers classes and workshops in academic disciplines, college-preparation training and other skills for students and their parents. They are held at the Center for Leadership Development headquarters at 2425 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. and at satellite locations at schools and other locations.
The funds allowed the organization to undertake a $8.5 million expansion of its headquarters. The center said its 40,000-square-foot facility will allow it to serve thousands more students. About $4.5 million will be used to expand services into the highest crime and lowest income neighborhoods.
The center said it would use about $13.5 million to fund its operations for the next five years and $6 million to establish an endowment to raise money for future center needs.
