A church on Indy’s far east side will give away backpacks ahead of the start of the school year.
New Beginnings Fellowship Church is planning a Backpack Giveaway and Community Day on July 19 with special guest Colts cornerback Julius “JuJu” Brents.
Brents, a Warren Central High School alumnus, will hand out and autograph the backpacks, which will come stuffed with school supplies.
The event will also feature a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, carnival games, a bounce house and gaming truck, a dunk tank, food and free physicals and health screenings.
Warren Township Superintendent Tim Hanson advertised the event in an early July back-to-school message to district families.
The family-friendly event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 19 at New Beginnings Fellowship Church, 2125 N. German Church Road.

School will start for kindergarteners through 9th graders in Warren Township on July 24. High school sophomores through seniors will go back on July 25. School supply lists are available on Warren Township’s website.
