At the October 23 Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees meeting, the board heard a resolution for a staff pay increase at the end of the year.
On Dec. 6, full-time employees will receive $1,100, part-time employees will receive $600, and pages and hourly employees will receive $400. The payments come from a remaining balance in the benefits and personnel budget.
Tisha Galarce, human resources director for Indianapolis Public Library, introduced the resolution.
Salaries are increasing, too
Galarce shared updates on the staff salary analysis created to support employees into 2025. She said their end-of-year goals include increasing the minimum pay for the page position and creating market-rate pay.
Pages, staff who place returned books back on the shelves, will receive a $1 increase moving their salary to $16 an hour. Staff in pay grades two through six will receive a baseline pay of $18 or more.
There are staff members in pay grades 7-15, who are still paid below the market rate. Galarce said the board is working to resolve this pay issue in 2025.
Raymond Biederman, board of trustees vice president, said the end-of-year payments and pay increases are part of a multi-step plan to address employee pay disparities.
