Michael Torres, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local (AFSCME) 3395, said the library clerks received a 4% raise, the same as Greg Hill, the library CEO.

Takeaway

The current average salary for a full-time assistant library employee is $37,000, while the average annual executive salary is $123,000.

During public comment, Torres said, “If we continue to practice an across-the-board percentage system, we will keep widening the inequity.”

He asked the board to have a resolution by the next meeting.

Torres also shared that library employees found out about Nichelle Hayes’s separation from the organization on the news.

“You can imagine how we felt. No matter what your leadership or influencers are telling you, Nichelle Hayes wasn’t just a name on the separations list in the board packet,” he said. “She’s someone we still respect and admire.”
