Three Indianapolis churches received grants Oct. 27 from Indiana Landmarks’ Sacred Places Indiana Fund. The awards are part of a more than $2.5 million grant to support historic congregations with significant building needs throughout the state.

  • Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1901 N. Harding Street: $125,000 for upgrades, including structural stabilization, roof repairs and improved accessibility. The church was built in 1921 on the west side.
  • Irvington United Methodist Church, 30 N. Audubon Road: $125,000 for upgrades, including HVAC replacement. The church was built in phases between 1909 and 1926 on the east side.
  • St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 2601 E. Thompson Road: $100,000 for upgrades, including a complete roof replacement. The church was built in 1969 on the south side.

Thirteen other churches outside of Indianapolis also received funding. The grant was established in 2023 with support from Lilly Endowment Inc.

Submissions for the Sacred Places Indiana Fund will reopen in January 2027. Interested congregations are encouraged to submit a letter of interest.
