The Marion County Election Board approved the 2024 general election ballot results and celebrated election workers at the Nov. 18 board meeting.

Director of Elections Patrick Becker shared the County Election Report, which is a summary of the election that covers state and county results — from governor and lieutenant governor, to Supreme Court judicial retention, to township offices and school boards.

The board reviewed and signed the results, making them official.

The certified 2024 election results showed that 358,036 ballots were cast in Marion County with 55% voter turnout. You can explore the certified results online.

Honoring election workers

Kate Sweeney Bell, Marion County clerk and board secretary, celebrated election workers for their work during the election season. She said the board could not have counted more than 353,000 ballots and completed all of the required documentation without them.

“It’s everyone working together to get everyone together,” she said.

Sweeney Bell recognized five election workers with flowers and framed certificates naming them “Champions of Democracy.” The honorees included:

  • Angee Wallberry, who was described as a “warrior” by her colleagues.
  • Carmen Kruer, who has worked over seven election cycles and has served in every role in the absentee voting process.
  • Betty Lynch, who has worked over seven election cycles providing perspective and work to improve systems. She’s usually the first one in and last one out.
  • Betty Allen, who serves as the “backbone of the Election Service Center” and makes sure her colleagues feel celebrated.
  • Jan Crider who has left an “indelible mark on the staff.”

Sweeney Bell and Becker thanked the entire election staff for making the election happen in Marion County. Jennifer Ping, board vice chair, also praised Becker for his work during recent elections, overcoming the challenges of COVID-19 and having three small children.

What’s next?

The next Marion County Election Board meeting is at 1 p.m., Dec. 12, at 200 East Washington St.
