What is your approach to immigration enforcement and working with ICE in the jail?

I would refuse any ICE Detainee that did not have criminal charges. If the only charge is “being in the country illegally” they will be refused.

Overcrowding has long been an issue at the jail. How would you address this issue?

By not taking ICE Detainees as mentioned above. Collaborating with the Prosecutor’s Office to move non violent inmates through the court system faster.

Housing advocates fear a new law criminalizing homeless encampments will contribute to overcrowding, strain other resources and unfairly punish people without homes. How would you address this? 

Advocate for the homeless and partner with city government to get adequate living spaces for the homeless. Work on decriminalizing the new law.

Would you terminate the contract between the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service that allows the jail to house ICE detainees?

The contract would not have to be cancelled, I would advise the Marshal Service that the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will only house ICE Detainees that have Criminal Charges over than “being in the country illegally.”
