If you have an eviction on your record, you might be able to get it sealed from public view.

Indiana Legal Services will host an eviction sealing clinic 3:30-7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Southeast Community Services, 901 Shelby St.

You can meet with an attorney for free to go over your eviction cases and figure out which ones might be eligible to be sealed.

Register online here. A limited number of walk-ins will be allowed before 6 p.m.

Preference will be given to people living in the following ZIP codes: 46203, 46201, 46107, 46227, 46237 and 46293.

How to prepare

Attorneys will be able to find your eviction cases, but it can be helpful if you already have some information before you go.

Start by searching your name on mycase.in.gov. Keep in mind that the court may have the wrong spelling of your name, so you can click “Enable sound-alike searching” to get a wider range of results.

Write down the name of the party that filed the eviction case (it could be a company or individual person), as well as the case number.

Mirror Indy’s eviction guide has more information on how to find those details.

Not all evictions can be sealed

In Indiana, an eviction can be sealed if:

• Your case was dismissed, or
• The case was decided in your favor, or
• The judgment against you was overturned, or
• You owed money and have since paid it off, or
• You don’t owe money, and it’s been at least seven years since the case ended.
