How can you help your little learner pick up reading?

The Indianapolis Public Library’s Lawrence branch will provide tips and tricks for helping children up 5 years old get started with reading.

The eastside branch’s Every Child Ready to Read workshop is open to parents, grandparents and other caregivers looking to learn more about early literacy skills.

The event will discuss five early literacy practices — talking, singing, reading, writing and playing — that families can try at home. It will also recommend interactive activities to get young ones excited about reading.

The tips will encourage familiar practices that are inexpensive and can be worked into everyday routines.

The workshop is free and runs from 6:30-7:15 p.m. March 10 at the Lawrence Branch, 7898 Hague Road.
