Indy teens can kick back, listen to music and grab a free meal this summer at a new series of weekend events.
The city’s Office of Public Health and Safety is organizing a new version of its “Summer in the City” programming.
This year, kids and teens ages 12 to 17 are invited to the weekend hangouts which will take place from 6-10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night. The series begins June 12 and will run through Aug. 29.
Let Them Talk, a local organization serving Indy youth, will host the events. Kids and teens will be welcomed in by a DJ, free meals and social time.
Let Them Talk staff will guide facilitated “kickback conversations” with kids and teens. The events will also have games, competitions and creative activities throughout the evening with more DJ music to end the night.
Free rides are available to the events, which will take place at the Brightwood – Forest Manor Community Center, 4062 E. 34th St except on June 12. That night, Summer in the City will meet at an alternate location called The Spot in the former IPS Francis Bellamy School 102 at 9501 E. 36th Place.
Several special events will also be offered in other locations, such as an End of Summer Skate Party at the Roller Cave and a cookout at Bellamy Park.
Kids and teens do not have to commit to attending the full slate of summer events. A list of Summer in the City dates and details, along with program registration, is available online.
