IndyGo will switch to a new payment system this summer.
The transition from MyKey to MyKey+ will bring new features, such as the ability to put everyone in a household under the same form of payment.
It also means riders need to pay attention to how much money is on your account, since the funds won’t carry over to the new account you’ll have to create.
You can make your new account starting July 1, either in person or online.
Here’s what you need to know.
What’s new?
If you’re already used to MyKey, MyKey+ won’t be much different, except for a few features that might make your life a little easier.
One of those features: You can link multiple MyKey+ cards to one account.
If you’re getting around the city with a group of people, you can buy and activate tickets for everyone from one account.
And if a bus ride would put your account into a negative balance, you can still take the bus one more time.
Plus, with the new payment validators on all buses, IndyGo plans to start accepting tap-to-pay by the end of the year, so you can pay from your debit/credit card or phone.
You can check for updates and more information about MyKey+ on IndyGo’s website.
Important dates to know
July 1
- Download the MyKey+ app and access the MyKey+ portal online.
- Magnetic stripe passes (such as a 10-day pass) aren’t for sale anymore, except for two-hour and one-day passes that you can still buy with cash on buses.
July 31
- Last day to add money to your MyKey account.
Aug. 31
- Last day to use money from your MyKey account.
Other changes
IndyGo will get rid of ticket vending machines, which are at some bus stops downtown and the Red and Purple line platforms.
If you want to load money to your MyKey+ card outside of the website or app, IndyGo is working with more than 100 vendors around Indianapolis where you can take your card. Here’s a map of store options.
You can get a physical MyKey+ card for free. You can call IndyGo’s customer service at 317-635-3344 to have a card sent by mail. You can also get a card at the downtown Julia M. Carson Transit Center, 201 E. Washington St.
Still have questions?
Stop by the transit center to talk with someone from IndyGo. You can also get help creating your MyKey+ account.
Open houses about the changes will be 7-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 6-17 and Aug. 17-28.
The customer service desk will also be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays in July and August at the transit center.

A correction was made on June 4, 2026: A previous version of this story misstated the last days to add money and use money from a MyKey account.
