Indiana Black Expo has announced a star-studded lineup of entertainment and events ahead of the 40th annual Circle City Classic.
Jacob Latimore, actor and R&B recording artist, has been selected as the grand marshal for the Circle City Classic Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in downtown Indy.
“We are honored to have Jacob Latimore serve as the grand marshal for the 40th Circle City Classic Parade,” said Alice Watson, president and CEO of Indiana Black Expo Inc. “His talent, passion and commitment to excellence make him an inspiration for young people everywhere. We look forward to celebrating his achievements and contributions during this milestone event.”
The Major Taylor Award, named after Indianapolis cyclist Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor, will be awarded at the Circle City Classic Coaches Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Lucas Oil Stadium. This award is presented to a Black athlete, coach, athletics administrator or official who has “made significant local and national contributions to youth while also encouraging excellence in future generations.”
This year’s recipient, Metta World Peace, is a former defender in the NBA. After playing 18 years and winning a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers, he retired in 2017.

The President’s Reception Gala is Friday, Sept. 27, in the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The gala is dedicated to celebrating Indiana Black Expo’s purpose, and all proceeds will assist in scholarships. Entertainment will feature R&B singer Will Downing, actor and comedian Joe Torry and saxophonist Bryan Thompson.
The 40th annual Circle City Classic Game, featuring a matchup between North Carolina Central University and Norfolk State University, will follow the parade at 3 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.
