Kids interested in sharpening up their cooking skills can apply for a new cohort of student chefs meeting on Indy’s east side.

The Junior Chef Academy at Paramount Englewood offers a 17-week program teaching skills such as kitchen safety, cutting techniques and how to handle protein.

The after-school program also organizes a series of cooking contests where students may earn their way to competing at the World Food Championships.

The academy will begin in March with 10 weeks of skills training followed by a four-week summer session in June and a three-week fall session beginning in early September.

Students ages 12 to 15 from any school are invited to apply online on the Junior Chef Academy website. The program will accept 40 students after tryouts.

Those open tryouts will be 4 p.m. March 3 at Paramount Englewood, 3029 E. Washington St.
