The Indiana Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a project intended to bring improvements to I-65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

A public hearing is scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. July 24 at Frederick Douglass SUPER School 19, 2020 Dawson St.

The public will have the chance to comment on the preliminary design plans and the environmental document for the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project. All verbal comments will be recorded during the hearing and addressed in the final environmental document.

INDOT says the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project is expected to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow and safety along the corridor. The plan includes added capacity, resurfacing pavement and improvements to drains and sidewalks. Nearly five miles, the corridor stretches from north of the I-465 interchange to just north of Fletcher Avenue in downtown Indianapolis.

Environmental documentation and preliminary design information is available to view at the following locations:

  • Garfield Park Branch Indianapolis Public Library, 2502 Shelby St.
  • Southeast Community Services, 901 Shelby St.
  • Tube Factory Artspace, 1125 Cruft St.
  • Frederick Douglass SUPER School 19, 2020 Dawson St.
  • INDOT Greenfield District Office, 32 S. Broadway, Greenfield, IN

They are also available online.
