Shepherd Community Center is offering free lunch-and-learn events for community members.
The first lunch-and-learn will be noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 16 and focus on housing. Assistant Executive Director Andrew Green said quality housing options are needed on the near east side where the center is located.
The center has assisted residents with maintaining housing for more than a decade and for the last couple of years it has been more of a challenge, Green said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic definitely worsened the housing situation,” he said.
Green said 33 people are currently on the center’s waiting list for housing assistance.
The goal of the lunch-and-learn is not only to raise awareness of housing issues but also to answer any question about housing concerns.
Other scheduled lunch-and-learn topics are hunger on March 15 and employment on May 10.
