The solar eclipse is coming to Indianapolis on April 8. Do you have your glasses yet?
[Don’t forget to come check out our Eclipse Tips comic strip. Say that 5x fast.]
Here’s where to snag a free pair from the Marion County Public Health Department:
- Drive-thru pickup from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at Lafayette Square Mall, 3919 Lafayette Road
- Drive-thru pickup from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at Washington Square Mall, 10202 E. Washington St.
- Attend the health department’s open house, “Prioritizing the Totality of Your Health,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at 3838 N. Rural St. The event will feature free eclipse glasses and safety information, as well as sports physicals, dental and blood pressure screenings, lead testing and vaccinations.
Looking directly into the sun during the eclipse can cause permanent damage to your eyes. Wearing eclipse glasses that meet international safety standards will shield you from injury. Do not substitute with sunglasses, telescopes, homemade filters, binoculars or cameras.
“Protecting your vision is paramount,” said Dr. Virginia A. Caine, director and chief medical officer of the Marion County Public Health Department.
