One of my favorite parts about being a reporter is learning about Indy through the eyes of neighbors who have lived here for years.

I’ve had conversations about the cheers high schoolers sang when Crispus Attucks High School won three state basketball championships in the 1950s. I’ve heard about favorite diners that died off. And I learned about the segregated past of Belmont Beach, a westside area that’s becoming a new hub for the community.

The U.S. is turning 250 this year, and we want to hear a memory about the Indianapolis of your childhood. It doesn’t have to be as big as the history-making basketball champs. You can share whatever makes you feel nostalgic.

Here’s how to share your favorite Indianapolis memory

The deadline to send in your story is June 12. We’ll publish your Indy memories as part of a special series ahead of the Fourth of July.

Need some ideas? You could share a memory about:

  • How you spent a summer growing up.
  • That moment you’ll always remember from high school.
  • Your favorite neighborhood picnic, block party or parade.
  • Watching an Indianapolis sports team win a big game.
  • The best food you used to get from a local spot.
