Westside families can get help buying clothes and shoes for kids starting a new school year.
The Wayne Township Trustee’s School Clothing Assistance Program provides vouchers of up to $175 per child for clothes and $75 per child for shoes.
Families must live in Wayne Township, meet certain income requirements and provide documentation required by the state to receive assistance.
To be eligible, families must make at or below 138% of the federal poverty level. That means a family of four, for example, would need to make $33,000 or less in a year to qualify.
The assistance is available for school-aged children in pre-K through 12th grade. Kids may attend any school district, charter school or private school.
The Wayne Township vouchers can be used at the following stores:
- Burlington, 5660 Crawfordsville Road
- Burlington, 2575 E. Main St., Plainfield
- Schoolbelles, 6315 N. Keystone Ave.
- Shoppers World, 3919 Lafayette Road
- Shoe Carnival, 4615 Lafayette Road
The trustee’s office will accept applications from July 13 to Aug. 28.
To apply, families may visit the trustee’s office in the Wayne Township Government Center, 5401 W. Washington St.
Families can fill out the application in person or download and print a copy in advance of their visit. Families must also provide proof of student enrollment, identification, Social Security cards, income verification and proof of residency. A checklist of required documents can be found online.
The Wayne Township Trustee’s Office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications and supporting documents can be dropped off outside of business hours using the township’s drop box, located just outside of the Wayne Township Government Center entrance.
Once all documents are received, the trustee’s office will review the materials and respond with a decision within 72 business hours. More information is available on the Wayne Township trustee’s website.
