The family of Ron Gee Frieson, an anti-violence activist who was killed in an east side shooting July 18, have shared plans for two memorials and a GoFundMe in his honor.
Frieson, 40, who went by “Ron Gee” publicly, was killed at a Citgo gas station. He was the founder of Cease Fire Indy, a nonprofit focused on ending gun violence; this work was personal — Frieson had been shot before in 2018 and lost numerous friends in shootings.
Cease Fire Indy is hosting a balloon release at noon July 21 near the scene of the shooting at 38th Street and Arlington Avenue. Food and drinks will be provided. People driving by are encouraged to honk for a cease fire.
A vigil will also be held at 7 p.m. July 22 at the same location. Attendees are asked to bring candles and white balloons to release.

“This is a sad day for the city of Indianapolis, for the very thing he stands for,” Ashia Williams, Frieson’s cousin, told Mirror Indy. “That’s what a ceasefire is — you don’t have to pick up a gun.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe for Frieson, who did not have insurance, Williams said.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police have not taken a suspect into custody or detained anyone in the case as of the evening of July 19, a police spokesperson said.
