Lawrence will host the city’s annual community safety day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at Lawrence Fire Station 40.

Attendees can meet public safety officers, learn about services provided and see live demonstrations from the Lawrence Police Department and the Lawrence Fire Department.

The event will include a Taser demonstration, ladder rescue demonstration and a K-9 demonstration. Members of the fire department and the police department’s SWAT team will also race to put on equipment during a “suit up” challenge.

The event will also feature a DJ, food trucks and resources from local organizations.

The event, held Saturday at 9530 E. 59th St., is free and open to the public. More information and a schedule can be found online.
