Indy residents criticized a proposal to cap public comment at Public Library Board meetings.

“It does concern me that the board of a public institution would consider imposing further limits on how the public can engage with it,” resident Sam James said at the October meeting of the Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees.

James said that they have had the same library card for 24 years. “I cannot help but see any attempt at limiting public comment is an attempt at censorship,” they said.

“Limiting public comment for a tax-funded institution is not a good idea,” Michael Torres, Indy Library Workers Union President, told the board. “Be prepared for public pushback.”
