Welcome to the first of two installments of “Who’s Doing What.” This December edition asks community members to tell Mirror Indy what they’re planning to check out, or what they’re listening to, reading or watching, and cooking or creating.
We hope that after you read this, you’ll be inspired to explore the city and try out some of these ideas yourself.

Tanorria Askew
Private chef/author
Going:
I am excited to drive around and check out the Christmas lights in my new Northwest Indy community with a cup of hot chocolate from Hattie’s Coffee House.
Listening to:
My podcast, “Black Girls Eating,” will wrap up for the season. I’m looking forward to listening to the stories of our last two guests while my co-host and I dream up who we’ll have on the show next year.
Watching:
The second season of “High on the Hog” and “Julia,” and as many holiday movies as possible.
Cooking:
I have three dinner parties scheduled, but I’m most excited to make homemade marshmallows with my almost 4-year-old niece.

Jackelin Espinosa Moyotl
Artist and graduate student
Going to:
I’m part of the first cohort of the Latino Artist Mentorship Program and we have a group exhibition at Newfields that will be open until Jan. 7.
Listening to:
Los Askis, a Mexican modern cumbia band.
Reading:
“Dying to Live: A Story of U.S. Immigration in an Age of Global Apartheid” by Joseph Nevins and “Lives in Limbo: Undocumented and Coming of Age in America” by Roberto G. Gonzales.
Creating:
I’ve been collecting receipts from my father’s first job here in Indiana and going through his documents as conceptually charged materials to weave with. Utilizing weaving in my current work has helped serve as a way to share my undocumented family’s experience without actually showing their faces.

Komal Sheth
Founder of Sheth Strategies and Indy Pride board member
Going to:
All the Indy Pride FROST events from Dec. 7-16. Also, the Andy Frasco concert on Dec. 14 and the Macy Gray concert on Dec. 15 at The Vogue.
Listening to:
My Spotify Wrapped – mostly “She Calls Me Back” by Noah Kahan and Kacey Musgraves.
Reading and watching:
“Lessons in Chemistry.” I loved the book, and the TV series is great.
Cooking:
Samosas.

Thomas Kneeland
Author and poet
Going to:
Dream Palace Books & Coffee on Dec. 14, because for one, I love reading (and coffee), and two, because it’ll be my first time there as a performing poet.
Listening to:
My listening library changes, depending on what I need mentally and spiritually. At any given time, I could listen to the “Motivation Daily” podcast, Cody Carnes, Chick Corea, Snarky Puppy or Robert Glasper’s “Black Radio III (Supreme Edition).”
Reading:
I’m on a journey with Dr. Taylor Byas’ poem collection, “I Done Clicked My Heels Three Times.” It reminds me of where I’ve come from and the things I’ve experienced and endured.
Cooking:
I don’t have a fancy name for it, but it’s one of my favorite dishes and the ingredients consist of: Sauteéd mushrooms, red and yellow bell peppers, kale, scallions, basil or tomato pesto (tomato is better), bruschetta and basmati rice. This meal is meatless and delicious.

Denisha Ferguson
Event consultant and creative director
Going to:
The Indy Winter Farmers Market at Circle City Industrial Complex.
Listening to:
My baby girl sing and practice new sounds.
Reading or watching:
“WORDS” by Kenneth E. Hagin as I’m wearing my Dlang Designs kimono robe.
Cooking:
My famous cornbread stuffing.
