Indianapolis students and their families can learn about the college application process at an annual conference and college fair hosted by the Center for Leadership Development.

The Aug. 30 event is open to high school students and their parents, guardians or other supportive adults.

Students and parents will attend separate sessions that cover multiple aspects of the college application and admissions process. Attendees will also be able to connect with representatives from local universities at the college fair.

Sessions for students cover topics such as what it’s like to be a college athlete, historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and resume writing. Parent sessions include information about paying for college and supporting students’ mental health.

This is the 18th year that the center will offer the conference. In 2024, nearly 400 high school students and parents attended the event.

Gregory Meriweather, a local podcast host and public speaker, will give the keynote speech at the conference.

If you go

The conference will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 30 on the second floor of the Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.

Both students and parents must purchase a ticket — which costs $25 — to attend. You will choose a ticket based on grade level and whether or not you’d like to play sports in college.

Purchase tickets for the conference online before the registration deadline at 11:59 p.m. Aug. 21. For questions, contact Mia Black at mblack@cldinc.org.
