Family members and caregivers can learn more about dementia in a May 9 seminar from Ascension St. Vincent Center for Healthy Aging.
The center helps seniors and their families with care plans, memory testing and counseling. Dementia is a group of conditions that lead to memory loss and impaired judgement in older adults; Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause.
In Indiana, more than 110,000 people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer’s disease, according to a 2023 report from the state’s Family and Social Services Administration, and that number is growing. Additionally, the Alzheimer’s Association estimates that caregivers in Indiana provide more than 321 million hours of unpaid care.
St. Vincent’s training provides education about dementia, caregiving tools and strategies to improve a loved one’s quality of life.
