The most local of the races on Marion County voters’ primary ballots May 5 were for township trustees and small claims court constables. The polls closed at 6 p.m.
Vote counts are not final until May 15, the deadline to count provisional and military ballots. With 100% of vote centers reporting, here are where the races stand.
Center Township
Kenneth Allen, the incumbent, received 50% of the vote against Byron Dawayne Davenport Sr. and Elijah Lee in a Democratic primary for Center Township constable. Davenport Sr. and Lee received 29% and 20% of the vote, respectively.
Decatur Township
Incumbent Luke Schmitt is leading Dawson Brown in the Republican primary for Decatur Township constable. Schmitt received 62% of the vote while Brown received 38%.
Lawrence Township
Incumbent Steve Talley received 32% of the vote in the race for the Democratic nominee for Lawrence Township trustee. Talley trailed Lisa Chavis, who received 42%.
Alison Cole, the third candidate, received 26% of the vote.
Tracey Cantrell, Erik Davenport Sr. and Erik Forestal competed in the Democratic primary for Lawrence Township constable. They received 47%, 10%, and 36% of the vote, respectively. John Willie McCrae, who dropped from the race but was still on the ballot, received 6%.
Pike Township
Incumbent Annette Johnson led the race for the Democratic nominee for Pike Township trustee with 57% of the vote.
Challenger Melody Barber-Hence received 16% and Claudette Peterson got 26%.
Incumbent Arthur (Art) Rowley faced Kevin L. Mattox, Marcus Ragland and Paul Woods in the Democratic primary for Pike Township constable. They received 29%, 9%, 17% and 45% of the vote, respectively.
Warren Township
Incumbent Vernon Brown trailed challenger James Taylor in the race for the Democratic nominee for Warren Township trustee.
Jacque Bartlett and Marie Hitze were also on the ballot.
Taylor led with 30% of the vote, followed by Brown with 26%, Bartlett with 25% and Hitze with 19%.
Incumbent Charles W. Staples trailed Osnel L. Andre Sr. in the Democratic primary for Warren Township constable. Staples received 22% of the vote while Andre Sr. received 46%. William Jackson, the third candidate, received 32%.
Washington Township
Incumbent Steve Miller is leading Kevin Thomas in the Democratic primary for Washington Township constable. Miller received 51% of the vote while Thomas received 49%.
